Sheldon had booked in a week ago for a fishing trip with Passage Enclave. Since it was a one-day trip I choose the Island of Manory, which is off Mumbai city, besides having great fishing the place is very scenic and still preserved, away from the hustle of the city. The smell of the sea was refreshing and the tide was quickly creeping in, with rod and tackle we were ready to cast off. Almost immediately Sheldon got a bite and reeled in a mullet, I too got a bite and in came another mullet!! Wow we were in the right place at the right time. The fish kept biting as we kept reeling in catfish, red snapper and mullets, the excitement kept building and fishing frenzy continued. After almost a couple of hours we decided to take a break and sip some coffee from the flask and munch on some sandwiches. We gazed at the open sea with the city looming in the background and contemplated how life can get so amazingly hectic. Sometimes every now and then we all need to take a break ……. go fishing or take a trip in the outdoors and let mother nature heal our impoverished souls.
When we got back after the break the fishing weren’t biting as before, I guess the tide had changed, even though Sheldon continued casting away while I decided to put my camera to good use. Suddenly I heard a yell, Sheldon had managed to hook on a real big bite!! The fish was a fighter and Sheldon had to keep all his senses alert tugging away at the rod. After almost twenty minutes we managed to land a big snapper, this was Sheldon’s first big catch and he was thrilled and exhausted.
It was noon and I guessed it was time for lunch. So we packed up gear ‘n fish and started off. Rambling through the beach we entered this beautiful field with buttercups and lilies dancing away with the wind. It was difficult to believe that such beauty and tranquility existed so close to Mumbai city.
We reached this lovely cottage where I had already booked in for lunch the previous evening. Having overindulged in the delicious lunch, we had a lazy afternoon spinning fishing yarns and let the evening settle on us with all its crimson glory. Sheldon smiled away with contentment and I figured he would back for some more fishing ‘n lunch very soon.
